PHILOSOPHY
Hospice is a special way of caring for people with life-threatening illnesses and their families. The hospice concept is not new; in fact, hospices provide comfort, kindness and nourishment to people in need hundreds of years ago. Today, hospice programs offer comfort to people as they near the end of life's journey. We at PADRE PIO HOSPICE & PALLIATIVE work with patients and their families to achieve a safe and comfortable death, self-determined life closure and effective grieving.
Patients and their families and friends experience many conflicting emotions when faced with a life-threatening illness - emotions such a fear, anger, loneliness and anxiety about the future. The hospice team helps both the patient and family cope with the experience of a life-threatening illness in all its dimensions - physical, practical, emotional and spiritual. All members of the team have unique knowledge and expertise that they contribute to the helping process.
Hospice affirms a person's right to choose and control in decision-making. It is the role of the hospice team to present and discuss options with the patient and family, and to assist them in making informed decisions.
Basic to the concept of hospice is an acknowledgement that death is a part of life and a belief that there are opportunities for growth in all stages of life, including the last.
